![]() Rinse, repeat, do it again.Īs a result, the story for Akashic Records becomes monotonous and quite predictable. General arc flow involves something evil plot relating to each of the three girls, things get dire, and Glenn saves the day. The series itself is split into 4 arcs spanning roughly 3 episodes each, with the general focus of each episode being Glenn saving and involving himself with one of the three main girls in the series: Rumia, Re=L, and Sistina in that order. With his guardian, Celica threatening him and forcing him to get off his ass to do something with his life, he ends up at the magic school that also serves as Celica’s workplace, and ultimately becomes a magic teacher much to his chagrin.Īkashic Records is a very arc-heavy (or as I refer to as arcic) show. ![]() Glenn Radars is a man without any motivation for anything. Whoever thought this was a good show idea is a bastard for sure. So what happens when you combine the concept of magic with an arcic harem setup? Well you get this show. Not overly serious but it still has direction.Because magic is such a foreign concept grounded in the limits of one’s imagination, the possibilities for stories based around magic are virtually limitless. If you’re a sucker for magic anime, give this a shot! It’s one of the better ones this season. It’s one of the anime this season that I highly anticipate every week. The magic side is also very interesting though I hope we get to see more spells and whatnot. ![]() It really helps that they have a strong, interesting lead. I enjoy this a lot because of the characters. ![]() Also, the ending theme song is sung by the voice actresses of Sistine, Rumia, and Re=L. The OP is amazing, though the ending gives off a more… slice-of-life feel? I think it’s a teensy-bit generic. Sistine is also nice, and not as one-dimensional as I thought she would become, but I cannot exactly get over her tsundere-ness. At first she just seems like your typical nice, gentle girl created to offset the loud tsundere that is Sistine, but she’s also shown to have her own charm and strengths. Rumia is waifu material also great especially in the fourth episode. He is also quite jaded due to his past but he doesn’t let this obstruct himself from learning from other people as well, despite being the teacher. He is unmotivated at times, extremely lazy, but is amazing at what he does when he puts his mind to it. Character designs are good, though their uniforms are mildly fanservice-y (even in ecchi animes, the female students don’t wear crop tops as uniforms!). The art is nice and very clean and they don’t skimp out even on the battles. This is one of the better-animated animes this season. It’s not like anything I’ve seen so far so I was actually really interested in how this anime’s magic differs from other series’ execution. It also does a good job with building up and explaining its magic mechanics. In fact, what I really like about Akashic Records is that it’s pretty comedic but not as overly done in its action scenes. It’s a bit reminiscent of Mahouka (especially episode 4… cough cough) but there’s no incest, and it’s not as deep. Magic schools are definitely not the newest plot out there, and Akashic Records doesn’t really seem to have introduced a deeper plot aside from what it has provided with its summary. His students are a bunch of nerds that way. ![]() Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records (which I will refer to from hereon out as “Akashic Records” because this entire thing is a mouthful) is about Glenn Radars, a substitute teacher at a magic school who is lazy and unmotivated which makes his students hate him. I’ll be doing a first impressions review on this based on the first four episodes! This will be spoiler-free, as usual. It’s this season’s magic school anime: Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records! Aaaand that’s a long-ass name.
